A New Generation of Friends

Sorry for my absence from blogging for the past couple of weeks.  Trey and I had our good friends, Toni & BJ, visiting for the last 10 days.  We also had another special visitor for the girls, Harrison.  This was the first time we've gotten to meet Harrison.  He was born about a week after Hadley so they are close in age.  Riley and Hadley both took to Harry quickly.  Riley is obsessed with babies.  Riley calls Hadley "sister" and chose to call Harry "baby."  It was fun to watch the three of them interact.  It seemed that whatever Harry was playing with Hadley wanted and vice versa.  Of course that's what I would expect from two seven month olds!  Hadley enjoyed pulling Harry's hair and Harry enjoyed poking Hadley's eyes out.  It was a match made in heaven!  I was definitely excited to have the Carter family here for a visit, especially since I hadn't seen Toni in over a year and Trey hadn't seen BJ in over two years. 

NASTY Diaper

I know you all love me for posting this picture.  But I just had to!  That nasty poopy explosion was all over my arm when I picked up my sweet little angel.  Who knew such a precious child could excrete something so vulgar?!?  Well, I did because it happened with Riley too.  This afternoon I was folding laundry while Hadley and Riley were playing in the playroom.  All of the sudden I heard an explosion and knew just where the sound came from.  I didn't realize it had exploded out of the diaper when I picked Hadley up.  Then I felt something wet on my arm and looked over and saw nasty baby poo on my arm.  Oh boy!  This happened to me once last week too.  So up to the bathtub we go.  I have learned to just get Hadley undressed inside of the tub so that poop doesn't go everywhere.  Another outfit down the shitter!  This outfit however was passed down from Riley, but I loved the dress.  Oh, well I guess.  Hadley only had a couple more wears before it didn't fit her anymore.  Look how happy Hadley is in the picture below.  I guess it felt good to get that poop out of her system.  Or maybe she was just excited to be in the bathtub!  I don't know, but she had a big smile on her face while still having poo all over her back. 

I got Hadley undressed and my arm washed off.  Then little miss nosy big sister had to come and join in on Operation Poop Clean-UP!  Riley kept saying ewww, eeeewww!  Yes, honey.  Mommy knows, it's stinky and yucky.  Riley responded with a "yeah mommy."  Riley for some reason has an obession with seeing poo now.  I have no idea why.  But now anytime I change a poopy diaper whether it be hers or Hadley's, Riley asks to see the poop.  If I don't show it to her she throws a huge tantrum.  Gross!

I got Hadley all washed off.  She enjoyed every bit of it because she loves to splash around in the tub.  It's probably her favorite part of the day.  But the clean-up wouldn't be complete if Riley couldn't join in the fun.  As I turned to grab Hadley a towel, Riley grabbed a wash cloth and decided to wash Hadley just a little bit more.  Riley told me "sister more mommy."  I interpreted that as Hadley needed to be washed more.  Okay.  Big sister knows best I guess!

Fireworks

This is the third year we've celebrated the 4th of July in Hawai'i.  Riley has always been in bed by the time the fireworks start so Trey and I have always watched from our house.  This year we decided to let Riley stay up to watch the fireworks.  She didn't want to go to bed anyway because Jason & Danielle were over and going to watch the fireworks before they left for the airport.  I got both the girls bathed and then got Hadley to bed.  We all went outside to watch the fireworks.  We are able to see the fireworks from Waikiki at our house.  Of course everytime I went to snap a picture I only captured the end of the firework.  Watching them from our house definitely isn't the same as seeing them up close and personal, but you still get to see them, just without the big booming sounds they make. 

Riley was super excited to see the fireworks.  This was the first time she'd ever seen them so it was really fun.  Riley even started to say firework, except it was a bit distorted.  She could get the "fire" out but the "work" was more like "wo."  Riley got comfy leaning up on her daddy watching the show.  Trey was in seventh heaven with his baby girl cozied up on him.  It was sweet to see.

After the fireworks I said goodbye to Jason & Danielle and then headed inside to get Riley to bed.  She got to bed around 9pm and slept until 7:40am.  Perhaps I need to put her to bed late so she'll sleep in!  It was a great night and I'm so glad we let Riley celebrate with us!

Happy 4th of July!!

We were suppose to go hang out with my friends at the beach today but both the girls have been battling a cold the past few days.  They both still had runny noses and coughs.  Hadley was completely miserable.  Trey and I both agreed it wouldn't be the smartest idea to let them play in the water so we had to pass on a beach day.  Both of the girls weren't laying down for their afternoon nap so Trey and I loaded them up in the Tahoe and took them for a drive.  There was a car show and other festivities taking place at Pearl Harbor so that's where we headed.  Hadley was passed out when we got there and didn't wake up until we were getting ready to leave.  Riley only fell asleep for the 10 minutes it took us to get there.  We walked through the car show and then looked for some funnel cake for Trey.  He was devastated when he realized they didn't have any funnel cake.  Instead he played a bunch of games trying to win Riley a cool stuffed animal.  All we left with was about ten tiny little stuffed horses.  Riley was less than thrilled with the prizes.  It was pretty funny. 

Before we walked back to the car we grabbed some gatorade because we were all dying of thirst.  It was super hot out.  You can tell by Riley's rosy cheeks!  She didn't want to put the gatorade down.  We loaded the girls back in the Tahoe.  Hadley was awake at this point and screaming.  As we were heading home she passed out again so Trey kept driving.  We wound up at the Pali Lookout.  It's amazing how windy and cold it always it there.  I seriously thought the wind was going to knock me over!  Riley wasn't a fan of the strong wind.  You can tell by her reaction below!

We did manage to get a family photo.  I seriously think that this is the only picture of all four of us.  Other than my hair blowing in Riley's face I think it's a pretty good picture!

Evening Out

It was a really rainy and dreary day today.  My friends Jason and Danielle went skydiving in the morning and then went to see Pearl Harbor in the afternoon.  We didn't meet up with them until the evening when we went to dinner.  They were staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki so we met up with them  there.  We were going to take them to the Yard House which is a super yummy place, but it was raining and Trey and I didn't want to drag the girls on a walk in the rain.  So we ate at an Italian restaurant at the hotel.  As we were walking to meet up with my friends Riley noticed all of the waterfalls.  I wanted to grab a shot of her and Trey infront of one but Riley wanted nothing to do with having her picture taken. 

We sat down for dinner around 6 o'clock.  It was a nicer atmosphere than we are used to with our two girls.  I wasn't quite sure how the evening was going to progress.  After about an hour Riley had enough and wanted to go to the water that she could see from the window right next to her seat.  Instead of eating dinner, Trey took Riley down to the water.  I stayed inside trying to eat my pasta with a screaming baby on my lap.  Hadley only lasted about 20 minutes in the highchair.  I got about three bites in my mouth.  As soon as Trey got back with Riley I bolted out the door with Hadley trying to calm her down.  It was getting late at this point.  The girls are in their bath at 7:30pm every night and that's about what time it was.  Once Hadley calmed down I went back inside, we paid the check, said goodbye to Jason & Danielle and headed home.  Tonight proved the reason why when we go out to dinner we are at the restaurant by 5pm.  Little kids that are on a schedule just don't do well when the parents don't keep that schedule! 

Here is sweet little Hadley five minutes into our drive home.  She completely passed out with her chewing rings in her mouth.  My poor pumpkin was tired!  I've never kept her out passed her bedtime and don't know that I'll ever try it again!

Firecracker

Trey went out to the store this morning to pick up some sparklers and other firework gadgets to entertain Riley with.  I think it was definitely more for his entertainment, but I'll let him keep thinking he bought the fireworks for Riley!  When Trey and Riley got back from the store, Trey set off some of the stuff that made crazy loud popping noises.  Riley thought it was hysterical and kept asking for more.  Trey kept setting them off as long as Riley kept asking for them!

Then it was time to show Riley the good ol' sparkler.  She wasn't sure at first if she wanted to hold one.  After a few moments of deliberation she decided she'd go for it.  Riley's face was full of excitement.  I was actually stunned that she took the sparkler from Trey.  She held that sparkler with all the confidence in the world!  As soon as her first sparkler burned out she was asking for her next one. 

Riley, again, was thoroughly excited to be holding another sparkler.  She was as giddy as can be.  Then this sparkler burned out.  I went to set the camera down and then grab the sparkler from her.  By the time I went to grab the sparkler, Riley had touched the hot part of the sparkler.  OUCH!!!  My poor girl  was screaming bloody murder and of course I got blamed for allowing it to happen.  As if I didn't feel bad enough already that my sweet angel got burned, I didn't need to hear that it was my fault.  I didn't light sparkler, but I'm not putting the blame on anyone.  After about 20 minutes of crying Riley finally settled down.  Poor thing had a blister on her thumb and pointer finger.  Needless to say, that was the end of Riley playing with sparklers!!

Welcome Friends!

I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am that I have some friends from home visiting this weekend!!  It's so nice to have people who have know you for a long time come and experience where I am living now.  The best part is they get to meet Hadley for the first time and see how big Riley has gotten.  Jason and Danielle just got married a few weeks ago and have been on their honeymoon in Hawai'i.  They started their honeymoon in Kauai and then went to Maui and now are visiting us for a few days.  Jason said he wasn't flying all the way here and not stopping on O'ahu to see us!  Yay!!  We headed to the North Shore and enjoyed a nice lunch at Cholo's.  I got pressured into having my first margarita in three years.  Well, I wasn't really pressured!  So while Trey, Jason and Danielle all ordered big ol' margaritas I ordered a little one without the Petrone.  Let me tell you, I won't be ordering another margarita anytime soon.  It took me the two hours we sat there to drink my itty bitty drink and I was feeling all hot and sweaty.  Not to mention I had a pounding headache for the rest of the day.  Blah! 

After lunch we headed over to K Point to show Jason and Danielle the beautiful view.  Trey also wanted to take Jason four wheeling, so they went and climbed some rocks.  Riley of course wanted to go down by the water but it's not really the most child friendly place to be.  Danielle and I took her down as close to the water as we could get.  I'm pretty sure Riley would have jumped in if she could have. 

Then we drove through all of the North Shore.  We stopped at Sharks Cove so that Jason and Danielle could see what that was all about.  It's a great snorkeling place, but again, not child friendly so we didn't stay long.  I stayed in the car feeding Hadley and Riley was passed out.  As we drove a little further we stopped at Ted's Bakery to grab a nice, fattening treat!  After that we all decided to head home.  Jason & Danielle went back to their hotel so they could rest a bit before heading out for sushi.  We just came home and crashed on the couch.  This whole family was tired!  But it was a super fantastic day spent with some good friends!
